THERAPEUTIC LASER

Laser therapy (or “photobiomodulation”) is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal. The effects of laser energy include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation adn decresed swelling.

How does therapeutic laser work:

The therapeutic lasers deliver specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light that interact with tissues at the cellular level inducing a photo-chemical reaction. The reaction increases the metabolic activity within the cell. Transport of nutrients accross the cell membrane is improved, stimulating increased production of cellular energy (ATP). The energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optiomal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain.

K-Laser Cube 4:

We are proud to own the best 4th Class Therapeutic laser that is on the market. The K-Laser Cube is the first and only laser that combines 4 wavelengths into one laser. The cube 4 incorporates up to 20 Watts of power and 4 wavelengths (660nm, 800nm, 905nm, 970nm) – the various wavelenghts have different depth of penetration into the body system (in general, longer wavelengths allow energy to penetrate more deeply than shorter wavelengths) and also have different absorption efficiencies for particular body structures:

660nm – well absormed in superficial tissue layers and provides excellent results in wound healing and scar tissue regulation

970nm – well absorbed in deeper tissue layers and are good at transforming energy into heat, creating temperature gradients at cellular level; they also boost local microcirculation thatnks to the increase in oxygen provided to the cells.

905nm – enables the peak absorption of light energy by haemoglobin, water, melanin and Cytochorme C oxidase; this results in more oxygen being available to cells and so speeds up the natural healing process.

800nm – these wavelenghts have the best effects on enzymes absorption; for example enhancement of Cytochrome C oxidase (the terminal enzyme of the respiratory chain which determines how efficiently cells convert molecular oxygen into ATP) will lead to increased production of ATP.

The power of the laser is also very important – the greater the depth of the cells we are treating, the more energy is needed to produce a therapeutic effect. By starting out with more energy at the skin surface using Class IV laser, treatment times are dramatically reduced compared with less powerful lasers (ie. Class IIb and Class III lasers).

Therapeutic benefits of laser therapy (all confirmed with peer reviewed scientific research):

Therapeutic applications in horses:

Most conditions will require initial 8 treatment (done bi-weekly), then depending on the response and original injury this may be all that’s needed to resolve condition (i.e. in acute conditions/wounds), or we may continue after initial 8 sessions with less frequent ‘top ups’ (generally needed in more chronic conditions). Laser treatment is non-invasive, quick, non-painful and is very much liked by the patients.

Prices for our laser treatment sessions:

Single session: £15

Package of 8 sessions: £105

Visit fees: £10 < 20 miles, £15 for 21-40 miles, £20 for 41-60 miles These prices are for single conditions (ie. treatment taking less than 15 minutes); for multiple lesions being treated at the same time please phone us for quote on 01304 364648.
